Rejoice skaven rats! We have new models!
Spiteclaws swarm is the new expansion release from GW as part of the shadespire game. Each of the five models that come on the box are brilliant. Full of detail and dynamic poses.

I have started with KRRK The Almost Trusted and im doing painting tutorials on each guy. here is a quick reference sheet followed by the video tutorial on my Youtube channel.

Run Gutter runners RUN!!!!

The Skaven warband almost has its two gutter runners almost finished.
I hated painting the black. The abbadon black paint had an almost had a gloss finish on it and ii couldn't paint the robes grey because the wall pieces on the base would be grey. So what i had to do was put a nuln oil wash over the black parts to take the gloss of. Then i dry brushed dawnstone grey mostly all over but more prominently on the edges.
That created another problem! The robes and the cape started to look kinda chalky looking. I took a gamble on putting a wash of Seraphim Sepia. this turned out to be a really good was to put on. it gave the robes/cloak a dirty yellow look with almost a hint of green in it. One colour disaster turns out to be a good thing!

Both gutter runners are almost finished. A few highlights here and there but the big thing is to blend the colour of the tail to the rest of the models skin tone.

Stormfiends: Bigger then your average rat!

For Christmas i had got a Element Games gift voucher, so there was no war-gaming surprise for me under the Christmas tree. But it did let me get some more models for my Skaven army and i don't know why but i seem to constantly overlook the Stormfiends.

First things first, these guys came out when the end times was in full flow so that meant they came with square bases. It went completely over my head that that there were no round bases in the box. Secondly you will notice that the Stormfiend with the ratling cannons is slightly different from what he is supposed to look like. He is meant to have a third rattling canon on his chest but it looks so ridiculous that i couldn't put it on. i replace it with some warpstone piece from what was left over from the box.

I love these guys and they are way bigger than i thought they would. they are almost twice as big as the rat ogres that come with the island of blood box from years ago. i think im going to make these as bodyguards for Thanquol & Boneripper. Keep the colour schemes coherent.

Another thing i picked up with the same voucher was the Ogre from blood bowl. really nice model with a good pose. He seems really small compared to the Stormfiends when he is next to them but he will fit nicely with my Reilkand Reavers team.......when i get around to painting them!

RISE CLAN ESHIN!!!

This is Clan Eshin warband project in the making now for only god hows long! But i finally started making the models based on the list i made in a previous post.
The first few i put together were the 3 Black Skaven and a Eshin sorcerer.  The Black Skaven can a little bit more armoured than the rest of the clan. So i think of them as the the bodyguards of the clan.

This guy is equipped with a pistol but i think i'm going to change that later. It doesn't seem to fit to well, so i might try and come up with something better

The Eshin sorcerer still has a staff to go on his right arm but i like how he turned out.
The most recent work i got done was two of the four gutter runners for the warband. the two models are from the Skaven blood bowl team box and they are two really great looking models that don't need to be changed a whole lot. so i left the first guy as he was. Didn't change anything.

With the second guy i just changed his two arms. I managed to find a right arm that looks like its holding something similar to a  fighting claw. The other hand is reaching out and what i want to is put a chain coming out from it with some sort of grappling hook at the end.

Kit Bashed Hellpit Abomination

This is something that's been on my shelf for a while.

I took apart a giant model i had built a few years back, never liked the job i did on it so decided to mix it up a bit. I wanted to see what it would be like if i tried to kitbash some leftover Hellpit Abomination parts.

I thought  about maybe putting a tail on him but i wanted it to look like the skaven found the giants body so i looks like they salvaged parts together to make this abomination (literally!). The addition of a tail i think wouldn't be a right fit.

He is a little rough around the edges, i think i need to get a pot of liquid green stuff and that should cover most of the gaps and joints.  I keep forgetting i had even made this. I like how the three arms look and the skaven heads coming out of the giants neck.

For now i haven't got any plans on painting the big guy anytime soon which is a good thing just incase i wanted to add a few more things on it

A Deathrunner & Deathrunner conversion

I had gotten two Skaven Deathrunner models of Ebay a few months back and had completely forgotten to share what i did with them. I love this model and please god the get a release by themselves, just like most of the silver tower models did :-(

You get two Deathrunners in a set and i really wanted to do something completely different with the other one. So for some reason i decided to give him wings! Used the wings from the crypt horrors box and they fitted perfect. The torch gives him the look of a gargoyle and he comes out at night

What's on Spunges Hobby Desk?

Well it has been a while! I was starting to think i was never going get back into the hobby. Second year in college has been taking up every single second of time i have but if i'm not doing some hobby then at least i'm doing something positive!

Clan Eshin Warband

The last thing i was wanting to start was a Skaven Clan Eshin warband and i did a live stream video in the YouTube channel a while ago about making a list for it. So rewrote the list as a rough outline on what way i'm going to build the warband.

  • Assassin x2- weeping blades and fighting claws
  • Black Skaven x4- warplock pistol, halberd/spear x2, sword
  • Eshin Sorceror-  staff and scroll
  • Night Runners x4 - daggers x2, sword, spear
  • Verminkin x4 - sword & shield x2, spear x2
  • Giant Rats x5
  • Rat Ogre
I also want to keep in mind the special rules eshin has in the mordheim rulebook to try and incorporate them into the model and the basing.
So that's rough build of the warband. Some equipment might be changed depending on if i have the bitz and the model looks right. this build i based on the Mordheim warband list for clan eshin because if you wanted a pure eshin list using the Age of Sigmar skirmish rules it would be just 2 deathrunners some nightrunners.

See the problem there?

The Deathrunners only come in the first silver tower box and the available night runner models are the worst models in the Skaven range. So by the looks of it i'm going to have to do some kitbashing and converting. The best way to start is with the Skaven Blood Bowl box. And if i can get my hands on anymore Deathrunners off ebay they are going to be used as well

Only part i have messed around with so far is sticking some skaven heads in some goblin bodies. Maybe they could work as some deformed Giant rats maybe?........Maybe not! lol

This guy, the Verminlord Deceiver, is going to be the centerpiece of the warband. Obviously he used in the warband but still looks cool as their leader!

Stay tuned for updates!

Rebasing a Verminlord #1

The rebasing from Square to round bases still continues in the hobby shed. I have 4 skaven monsters to get rebased altogether, Thanquol & Boneripper, Hellpit Abomination  I had bought round bases of Ebay and they ended up being really big! A bit to big! So i decided fill the base out and make it a scenic base.

As you can see i will be using parts from the Garden of Morr set. Most of the building is done for now. I removed the gates from the entry part and had to cut off parts from the sides to get it to fit on the base. It was a little tricky to fit the Verminlord just right on it but it was even tricker to to fit it comfortably on with his tail attached. I had his tail magnetized so it was easy to take off but now its going to have to be glued on.

Going to be working on it over the next few days so stay tuned!

Old School Verminlord

This has got to be one of favourite ebay finds. I've loved this model from when i first started collecting Skaven. i usually hate working with the old metal models but this one was a joy to work on. Only part i had to change was his tail. His original tail was missing so i went looking through bit bitz box and funnily enough it was a piece from the new Verminlord kit that was a perfect fit!

I used a garden of morr piece on the base because i'm wanting to tie in all future skave projects with the same scenic bases.

Finished model

I am surprisingly happy with the glow effect from the warp stone in his fore head. I dry brushed the area around the stone with the brightest green i had, i think it was the old scorpion green paint and it it turned out just right.

Here the video of the model i did for tje SpungeHammer YouTube channel
